Casa Tosca: A House with a Soul
Casa Tosca was purchased in 2016 — a charming historic building that immediately spoke to us. It had been lovingly restored by an Italian dentist with great taste. We were drawn to its warmth and soul — I have always had a passion for old houses that seem to whisper stories from the past.
At first, we made only a few modifications. The kitchens were already equipped, and most appliances were included in the purchase. Peter and I wanted to transform it into a boutique apart-hotel — a place where travelers could feel at home and experience the charm of Jávea’s historic center.
Though Peter wasn’t even present at the time of purchase, I signed for him at the beginning of July and, with a friend, ran out to buy linens, pillows, and the essentials to welcome our first guests.
Meet Yeimy
Behind every smooth stay at Casa Tosca is our incredible right hand, Yeimy. Originally from Colombia and now a proud Spanish citizen, Yeimy has become an essential part of our lives and the daily running of the house.
While Peter and I spend the winters in Kenya, Yeimy and her partner Sergio together with their ever-growing extended family — take care of everything here in Jávea. Over the years, we’ve been welcomed into their close-knit family, often joining family meals and local celebrations.
One of our favorite moments is the San Juan festival, when we host a big gathering in Casa Tosca with decorations, home-cooked food, and lots of laughter. And this year we have been blessed with the coming of Yeimy and Sergio's daughter Megan.
About Suzanne – A Journey from Quebec to Jávea
I was born and raised in Québec, Canada, where French is my first language. For over 20 years, I worked as a lawyer before deciding to change paths and follow my heart to Ibiza. That decision opened a whole new world of travel, creativity, and connection.
With a partner who loved exploring the globe, I spent time in Lamu, Kenya, where we built a house and where I fell in love with Kenyan craftsmanship. I started importing handmade beaded sandals and artisan goods to sell in Ibiza. I am now in Javea, and have my own shop and still wholesale to a few exclusive shops.
Casa Tosca came into our lives in 2016, when Peter — now my husband — bought the house. We immediately prepared it as an Apart-Hotel. The house came fully equipped, and we added just a few things to make it ready for guests. It felt natural — a house with soul, full of history, and meant to be shared.
Today, Peter and I live just across the street, above my Shop. We still divide our time between Spain and Kenya, but Casa Tosca is always at the heart of our lives.
About Peter – From Kenyan Roots to Casa Tosca
Peter was born and raised in Kenya and later studied Business in England. Together with his parents, he built what became one of the largest flower farms in Kenya and the world — employing thousands of people across Kenya, the UK, and the Netherlands. Oserian Flowers.
Although his background is in large-scale operations, Peter finds great joy in the details of Casa Tosca. He takes pride in the house’s charm and especially loves decorating the tall central staircase with beautiful silk flowers — a small touch that fills the four-story hall with color and character. Casa Tosca is a place that reflects his care, creativity, and sense of beauty.
Peter and I met in Kenya, where we both have deep roots. Our shared love for the country and its people has been a cornerstone of our relationship. Together, we balance our time between Spain and Kenya.
In Kenya, we offer four unique rental properties. In Nairobi, hornbill cottage, a one bedroom house available on Airbnb. At the coast, we have an apartment in Malindi and a 3 bedroom staffed house in Watamu, second row from the beach. In Naivasha, our family’s private home — located within the Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary — is also available for short stays and offers a one-of-a-kind safari experience. The site is still under construction but you can learn more at kenya-properties.com.
